US Department of Transportation published a Final Rule: Revisions to Civil Penalty Amounts

On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, the US Department of Transportation published a Final Rule:  Revisions to Civil Penalty Amounts.  This Final Rule was issued in conformance with the requirements of the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990.  This Act requires that Federal agencies adjust their minimum and maximum penalty amounts to account for inflation annually.  This Act also provides for agencies to issue a Final Rule without notice and comment.

  • Violation of hazardous materials transportation law         $79,976  to   $81,993
  • Violation of hazardous materials transportation law resulting in death, serious illness, severe injury, or substantial property destruction.     $186,610  to $191,316
  • Minimum penalty for violation of hazardous materials transportation law relating to training.       $481 to $493
